Here at my house, we are tentatively planning a SURPRISE (shhhh!!! don’t tell my younger kids!) trip to Disney for this coming December. So far, we’ve done Disney during the after-Christmas winter months, spring, and fall (and I refuse to do summer!) So, we think it’s high time we get down there to experience Christmas at Disney!
Over the years, I have loved reading about all the wonderful things that Disney offers over the Christmas holidays. Seeing everyone else’s pictures has been such fun. But now we’re ready to experience it for ourselves! I’m a bit of a research fanatic; so I’ve been busy checking into all the many things to see and do and the best times to see and do them.
I thought it would be a fun question to pose to my readers and friends. So, I have asked them for their Top December Must-Dos at Disney. I’ve taken their votes and compiled a Top 4 list for you today. I’d love to hear your feedback on these things, as well as any other suggestions you would have for making the best use of your Disney time in December.
#1 – The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios
This was, far and away, the absolute must-do! Honestly, I believe that this is a “you have to see it to believe it” experience. I don’t believe the pictures do it justice. Because, when I’m thinking about an upcoming trip to Disney in December, I’d want to see it, but it wouldn’t top my list. Yet, those who have seen it, seem to almost always put it at the tippy-top of their list.
Millions of twinkling lights on the Streets of America, synchronized to holiday music. . . even Disney says you have to see it to believe it. The best part is that it’s FREE with standard park admission, and runs each night throughout the holiday season.
#2 – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom
In my planning, this made the top of my list. Sure, it requires an additional ticket (beyond regular park admission) that costs approximately $60 per person, but it includes some pretty fun things:
- Castle Dream Lights on Cinderella’s Castle (when I see the pictures of this, I get giddy!)
- Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade
- Holiday Wishes (fireworks)
- Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show
- Celebrate the Season Show
- Meet & Greet Character Opportunities (with the characters dressed in their Christmas finery)
- Complimentary Cookies & Hot Cocoa
- and a Magical Snowfall on Main Street USA (I don’t even like snow, but I’m guessing I’d like it at Walt Disney World!)
#3 – Resort Decorations
was excited that resort decorations got so many votes! Why? Because my family loves to build at least one day into our Disney vacations with the select purpose of touring various resorts. We’ve seen most of them now, and we love the various theming and variety. However, we have not seen any of them decked out for Christmas. And, as usual, Disney doesn’t spare any detail when it comes to Christmas decorating.
Just think: totally free entertainment, and it’s #3 on the must-do list!
#4 – Candlelight Processional at Epcot
This one is a no-brainer for me. We absolutely have to see this!
Here’s what the Disney website says about this event:
Candlelight Processional is a holiday event held nightly at the America Gardens Theatre in Epcot. The rich sounds of the full orchestra and choir fill the theatre as a special guest narrator takes the stage. Let the story of the babe in a manger touch your heart as it has for generations, accompanied by warm and inspiring holiday music.
This event is free with regular park admission. However, it is first come, first serve seating and I’m told it tends to fill up fast. So, I’m planning to schedule a Candlelight Dinner Package. This guarantees not only a good seat for the processional, but also VIP fireworks viewing for IllumiNations.
So, how about you? What are your “must-dos in December” at Disney?
