Today is September 1st. And today I’m also thinking about the fact that this month is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. I lost my best friend to ovarian cancer several years ago – so this is a BIG DEAL for me. (I’ve blogged about it – Experiencing Ovarian Cancer – as part of my #reallife posting series.)
The world is overcome by pink ribbons. And breast cancer is a scary thing and worthy of promoting awareness. I’ve had dear friends and relatives who have battled breast cancer, so I’d never say it’s not an important thing to promote. It is.
But, I want to see the world literally STORMED with teal ribbons this month! Why?
Ovarian cancer accounts for approximately three percent of cancers in women.
While the 11th most common cancer among women, ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women, and is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers. (taken from Ovarian Cancer National Alliance)
Those are some scary statistics. We need to spread the word about this cancer! Let’s do that TOGETHER! I’m asking YOU to help!
