Our Christmas trees are up and decorated already. Yes, I said TREES, plural. But, I’ll get to that in a minute . . .
Years ago, it would have been unheard of to put our Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving. Brian was always very adamant that we not put it up until at least the Saturday AFTER Thanksgiving. And when I say “adamant,” I mean it in the severest sense of the word – like, to the point of being annoyingly stubborn about it.
That all changed, though, the year that my best friend Sue passed away. It was really, really hard for me to even put up a tree at all that year. I had no interest in it. I couldn’t bear to use my old-fashioned rag ball ornaments that Sue and I had spent hours creating together, along with all the rusty tin ornaments that I had been collecting to go with them. It just hurt too much.
