I wasn’t going to write this post. I’ve known that our homeschool would be taking a new direction next year for the past several months, but I haven’t said anything to anyone outside of my family. I guess I was feeling somewhat ashamed. Because, believe it or not, those homeschoolers can be a judgmental bunch sometimes! But, over the past few weeks, as I’ve been traveling to homeschool conventions around the country, I’ve had opportunity to talk to other homeschool moms of boys, and I’m beginning to realize that my boy isn’t as different as I may have thought!
So, here’s the thing. I’m just going to say it . . .
Ian doesn’t like to do school!
He doesn’t have time for it! He’s got better things to do. Schoolwork is stupid. Schoolwork is hard. Schoolwork is boring.
And because he’s my baby, I know I tend to be too lax with him. I know he’s smart. I know he’s learning. I know it’s not too hard. But, I feel like we’re not doing enough.
