You know the old poem about little boys, don’t you? While bugs aren’t actually mentioned, I always thought that bugs were something that little boys liked. I’ve seen many a little boy obsessed with bugs – catching them, collecting them, studying them, etc. But not my boy! Ian despises bugs! He’s terrified of them. He hates it when a fly gets into the house. He’s our resident ant alarm – if ants are in the house, he knows it and he lets us know it. If we’re outside and something buzzes around his head, you’d literally think it was the end of the world.
For years, I’ve been trying to teach him to, at least, appreciate bugs. He doesn’t have to like them; but I’d like him to at least realize that not all bugs are scary. God created bugs for a reason. (Snakes, on the other hand, I have to wonder about!) We’ve read books about bugs, we’ve watched “A Bug’s Life,” etc. – none of it has worked.
