Danielle’s Dining Review: San Angel Inn

San Angel Inn (Mexico, World Showcase, Epcot) – Table Service

This was my first time eating at San Angel Inn. I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food and a previous visit to La Hacienda de San Angel didn’t sit well with me, so I was hesitant to try this place out. But I’m on a mission remember? My favorite part of this restaurant is location. Housed inside the Mexico pavilion at Epcot, it’s one of the enchanting settings. I love the Mexico pavilion to begin with. You really feel like you are in a Mexican village on a moonlit night with the volcano in the background and starry sky above you (not to mention the tequila bar nearby!) What’s also unique about this place is that Gran Fiesta Tour attraction (the Donald Duck and friends boat ride, aka Mexican “It’s a Small World”) pass by the diners in front of the volcano.

LaMexico

We kept in simple for started with chips, salsa and guacamole. Nothing mind-blowing here, but a good way to start off. I wasn’t feeling so hot this night so I didn’t get to sample anyone else’s entrees but my own. I had the Camarones en Tequila – tequila flamed shrimp a la Diabla served over cilantro, poblano rice, cascabel pepper sauce. Served with seasonal vegetables and tamarind glaze drizzle. I had asked prior to ordering if the sauces were super spicy and the server suggested getting it on the side. What I ended up with was really dry rice and dried out shrimp. The sauce was spicy and I didn’t enjoy the flavors, so I was glad to have it on the side. This was perhaps my most disappointing meal. The rest of my group was just ok with their food.

Overall rating: C – They get points for beautiful setting, but the food was mediocre.
