Again, I’m not going to beat around the bush here. The answer to this question is a loud and resounding YES!
If you are planning to pursue an adoption, then you need to prepare yourself for a LOT of paperwork. You’re going to have to fill out forms for your adoption agency. You’re going to have to answer a LOT of personal questions. You’re going to have to gather paperwork to be included in a dossier that will go to your child’s country. You’re going to have to find some people to “vouch for you” by writing letters of reference. You’re going to have to secure documents, have them notarized, etc. Chances are, you’re also going to have to write an autobiography.
Now I’m going to go before the firing squad and admit that I LIKE PAPERWORK. So, to me, this wasn’t a big deal. It gave me something to do while waiting. But, for others, I know it’s a real burden and it’s one of the things that I hear other adoptive parents complaining about.
