And to Think That I Saw It on Myboring Street

Do you ever have one of those moments where afterward you think to yourself, “I need to write a poem about that”? I had one of them yesterday.

Let me preface this post with a quick explanation – – – I live in Smalltown, USA, right in the heart of Amish Country (of the uncommercialised variety). I see (and hear) Amish buggies clopping by all throughout the day – it’s nothing new and, around here, it’s not a novelty. I live 4 doors down from the post office and visit at least once per day. On a normal day, it’s a quick walk up and back – nothing too exciting usually happens around here. It is what it is.

But yesterday . . . well, let’s just say I got home and the words to one of my all-time favorite Dr. Seuss books were rolling around in my head.

“All the long way to school
And all the way back,
I’ve looked and I’ve looked
And I’ve kept careful track,
But all that I’ve noticed,
Except my own feet,
Was a horse and a wagon
On Mulberry Street.”
