We had the privilege of seeing an advanced screening Thor: Ragnarok 5 days before its release. It was comical, entertaining and Marvel fans will likely be very pleased!
In the movie, Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk! “Thor: Ragnarok” is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Review
The movie contains a fun, yet predictable, plot. The “one liners” were what we were most excited for – and the movie did not disappoint! There were lots of funny remarks – very laughable moments. The movie was high-action, with several violent scenes, but thankfully it didn’t contain too much blood or gore to churn ones stomach. We viewed the movie in 3D iMax. The iMax screen is always great. However, this particular film in 3D was harder to watch. There are a lot of scenes with motion, debris flying and darkness – it was hard to focus while watching it in 3D. There are also “still” moments, and while the forefront objects/characters are in =-focus, the background is overly out-of-focus and I found it too distracting. My recommendation: iMax = yes, 3D = No.
Fun facts: Not only did Taika Waititi direct Thor: Ragnarok, he also cast himself as Korg – the hilarious, stone-man gladiator. Disney fans will recognize Hela has a striking resemblance to Lady Tremaine, in Disney’s live-action Cinderella, that’s because both characters are played by Cate Blanchett.
The Kid Factor
This film contains language and violent acts of killing. I would recommend that children under the age of 12 not watch this film.
Stay After the Credits?
YES! You get double the bonus clips here! After about 30 seconds of credits, you’ll see a funny scene depicting what becomes of the Grandmaster after the so-called “revolution.” THEN, you’ll want to continue through the bitter end of the credits to see another scene hinting of what’s to come in future Marvel films!
